PostSubject: Re: Book collection    Book collection EmptyFri Mar 31, 2017 12:04 pm

Hi Jonathan S.A... would you be looking to sell the collection
in one lot, well that could prove tricky for a lot of different
reason's.. i'm familiar with most of the prominent book dealers
in S.A.. and i'm sure you would offload them to one or the other,
but if you list the collection and then go on to compare prices on
the web.. inc such sites as bookfinder, abe, and others you will
quickly see that some titles are more desirable than others... it
might take longer to source a buyer than you think. so take your
time research what you have!..

Collection's come on the market from time to time, and usually
they are broken up to maximise return.. i have books from a few
such eminent authors / historians inc Hattersley and Huw Jones
and others.. who is the historian you mention?. i'm of the opinion
that the items in the collection will find their respective ' home's ',
but it might take longer than you think.. a list would be most help-
ful, i buy book's on an ongoing addictive sort of way, and would i'm
sure be interested in some titles, even with the postage from RSA.

Thank's for the list Jonathan S.A, some good titles there...i'm sure
there will be some offer's for you, be aware that the Baynham-
jones / Stevenson's, Rorkes Drift by those who were there is privately
published and is extremely rare and virtually unobtainable.. xhosa

Jonathan, yes Rob was very well respected in the AZW community,
the manner of his passing was so very sad, but he left a huge
legacy and he will be remembered for many years to come.. i am
lucky to have some of Robs work, i am currently in contact with Mr
Shane Evan's of Isandhlwana Lodge who has been very helpful to
me recently.

Yes of course i will e mail you my thought's and will endeavour to fill
you in regarding prices.. but like i said it could prove tricky, now that
you have itemised and published the above list, i see straight away that
you have a couple that should command a decent price, i will get back
to you shortly.. cheers xhosa. ( Les ).

Jonathan, your e mail address does not register on yahoo, so
here is the transcript of my e mail to you..just saves me time!.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your replies.please look up bookfinder which
is an excellent resource and will give you some very good indications of current
values.. yes some signed books do bring a higher premium, depending on the book
and of course the author, the two that stand out for me is the jones/stevenson book
and the red book by peter and ron, i expect you might have received inquiry's for
those two..people might try to cherry pick from your list..

Most of the titles are ' modern ' and can be had for as much as the low teens up to
£40.00 british sterling, i would try to keep the lot together in order to familiar yourself
with current prices..i hope after contacting the various book dealers in RSA you could
come to some arrangement whereby you could move on the whole lot, or you will have
to break it up and sell as and when..could be a lot of work..please let me know how you
are getting on!..i myself have all the titles listed, i collect 1st editions on Africa and
they are in the main older titles from 1871 onward's.

I must say once again how saddened i was when Rob passed and the events which had
preceded it. i have seen time and time again book collections being moved on when an
author/ historian dies, its sad in a way, but also good that they will find new homes, we
are of course only temporary custodians of these ephemeral possessions..good luck
mate, all the best Les. please just type book finder on the net, when you have the page,
type in zulu war in the title box, there you will get most if not all the info you require.

I would be interested in The Red Book.

I'd like to add that the reason for this collection appearing on the market is a great shame.

Can't see a problem. No doubt any transactions would be via personal email.

Thanks for asking. Salute
