Found this interesting cutting in an old book. It originally appeared in 1931 (Sergeant Warren's letter about Isandhlwana was in the Bristol Observer on 29 March 1879).

Seems Sgt Warren is another who is put down as an Isandlwana Survivor , simply because of the fact he wasn't in the camp at the time of the battle , if , as the story says is correct that he was with the relieving force the nest morning at RD , he was certainly out with LC , and not in the camp during the battle .

Hi 90th

You are correct, it is the newspapers that claim he was a Survivor. Sgt. Warren never claimed to be a Survivor of the battle. He does give a good account of what he was doing during the day of the 22nd and was out with LC.
In a letter to his father he tells all and was printed in Western Daily Press 26 March 1879.

Salute

I've had a quick search and he seems to have died in the March quarter of 1932 aged 81 in Orsett, Essex.

Hi Tim

No, I can't be sure, but St Giles and All Saints at Orsett appears to have quite a large churchyard. Otherwise it might be the cemetery at Grays. Here is Sgt Warren and I think his first wife (my not very expert joining of two photos).
