| I am guessing the authentic spelling of the Welsh middle name is with the "dd" not the "th" Of course, "dd" in welsh is pronounced "th" in English. Graves, good to see you posting again, Tasker. |

Mary Elizabeth Anne Dalberg-Acton, daughter of Sir John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton of Aldenham and Maria Anna Ludmilla Euphrosina von und zu Arco auf Valley, on 21 October 1901. He died on 29 April 1931. Lt.-Col. Edward Bleiddian Herbert held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.). He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 17th Lancers.
Also came across this "Small pocket book of catholic prayers. In the flyleaf there are two inscriptions in ink. 'E.B. Herbert from his mother on joining October 1st 1877' and beneath in Welsh 'Duw sydd gyda chwi (?) Blei.' A tentative suggestion suggests something like, 'God is alwayd with you Blei'Feb 12th '79. Also attached to the inside cover is a small calendar, for 1879 from Llanarth Court. I believe Blei is Lieutenant Colonel Edward Bleiddian Herbert, of the 17th Lancers, who saw action in the British war of 1879 with the Zulu. The Herbert family owned a large estate called Llanarth Court, in Wales. Lt Colonel Herbert married the honorable Mary Elizabeth Anne Dalberg-Acton; daughter of Sir John Dalberg Acton, 1st Baron of Aldenham, whose most famour quote was 'Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"
