Hi Admin I cannot see a date or a mention of a date, but looking at the photograph, I would say it could be 1877 or 1878

Hi Dave A little info on F Streatfield. From the Book, From Midshipman to Field Marshal by Evelyn Wood. Streatfield did take part in the 9th Kaffir War but did not go onto the Zulu War, he explains why in his book.

Apparently he played whist with Melvill but unless he was up with No3 column it was not on the day he was killed. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper - Sunday 05 November 1911

The interesting thing there Gary is an eyewitness recalled seeing a pack of playing cards scattered around. I can't recall who it was that saw that but he mentioned that someone, Pullen was playing at the time of the attack. Don't believe that for a second but it does add interest.
