flocking stands to historical accuracy

Hello all, wargammer painting new zulu army with a question. Its mainly for Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift. The Zulus are 15mm mounted on 50mm x 75mm with 10-12 figures on the stand.

Iam about to start flocking some stands and am running into a bit of a dilemma with regards to authentic look of terrain specifically grass colour/variety, height, density/sparsity, etc. I have been looking for pictorial references to base my flocking on and have befuddled myself. Any help would be much appreciated via link, pics or description.

Being the height of summer and with a lot of rain at the end of 1878 beginnning of 1879 the area would have been very green with very long grass, in some places shoulder high.
Long grass like this I appreciate would not be parctical for wargaming but the area would have been a lot greener than people imagine.
There would be standing water in the dongas along the valley in front of the camp and vertical surfaces in the landscape would be a brown/orange colour.
Tracks would would be muddy with deep furrows when regularly used by heavy wagons.

Hi,

I've textured the bases, put some patches of flock and then put a number of tufts on the bases.

The tufts I have used are quite tall - thigh to waist height on a 25mm figure.

There's no need to absolutely cover the base with tufts, just put enough on them to give the impression of long grass.
